Blog rules to tighten things up

Rules for writing blogs help keep things tight, consistent and to the point, as well in line with disability access.

Paragraphs should be 25 words max, and headlines no more than 10 words. Sub-headings a bit less.

They should both be formatted to allow software used by the visually impaired to identify and read them aloud.

Key words should be bold and/or linked to help scan readers. But there shouldn't too many as this will make the page look cluttered.

Write 2-3 paragraphs in each sub-section (ie the bit under each sub-heading).

Writing for the Web

On an NUJ course, "How to write for the Web", led by Chris Wheal. Learning new tricks and techniques to make my stories more web-friendly - such as:

- writing short (half the length of print)
- SEO-friendly language
- no flowery language
- including detail high up in story.

Learning about disability legislation today. Great.

Adventures on a volcano tour

Came home from Iceland on Tuesday, just in time to miss the fresh eruption of the volcano. Had we stayed another day, we'd still be there now thanks to the grounding of all flights to and from the UK.

been to see the doc

Went to the doc today as I've been suffering from headaches for quite some time. She gave me a prescription for tablets.
